Watch Adele, Jimmy Fallon & The Roots Perform "Hello" On Classroom Instruments

Adele set aside her (hard-won) reputation as the heartbroken balladeer of our generation and went more for 'lighthearted balladeer' this week, goofing off and having a little fun with her chart-topping lead single “Hello,” with some help from Jimmy Fallon and The Roots.

Hey, when you’re well on your way to 3 million records sold in your first week, you should be able to sit back and have a little fun with your music, innit? The Roots and Fallon have, of course, become famous for these Fisher-Price remixes of the biggest songs in the pop universe (not to mention a few, um, evergreen Christmas-time chestnuts) jamming on baby xylophones, ukeleles and kazoos with everybody from Robin Thicke to Madonna. And given that Adele's first week sales are on track to be the biggest seller since N'Sync (i.e. since the bottom fell out of CD sales during the early post-Napster era) we can pretty much expect that this little viral vid will have a similar effect on the Internet today.

It's only one stop on the runaway Adele train, though, as her trending performance on this morning's The Today Show demonstrates. On Monday, we were witness to the UK songstress' show-stopping performance of “Under The Bridge” as well as her hilarious ‘Box of Lies’ segment with Jimmy, and now we’re treated to some bonus footage from Adele’s late night take over (airing earlier this evening). With Adele on the flip-phone, Jimmy on the wood block/bass drum, Questlove manning the orange shaker/hand clappers, and Black Thought on the tambourine, watch Adele’s “Hello” performed like you’ve never seen it before. Again, Adele’s new album, 25, is in stores now (and on track for the best-ever opening sales week for any album in the UK).
