‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Tops $927M for Second Best Global Opening Ever

Zendaya and Tom Holland have become the reigning king and queen of the 2026 box office.

Zendaya and Tom Holland powered over the competition at the box office. According to DEADLINE, Spider-Man: Brand New Day scored a $927 million global opening at 90,000 screens worldwide. That number makes it the second best opening ever, only behind Avengers: Endgame’s reported $1.22 billion global record.

That’s more than 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, which earned a reported $640.5 million. Sony’s initial global projection for Brand New Day was $425 million worldwide.

“To be truly honest, it feels fantastic,” Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman shared with The Hollywood Reporter. As for what worked, he says, “You’ve just got to make a really, really great film. Now, there are other more mechanical factors. There hasn’t been one in five years, so scarcity has value. The audience is very, very connected with this character. It’s a very relatable story. No matter how old or young you are, everybody wants connection in the world. Everybody needs friends — and that’s what the movie is about.”

Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo also star in Brand New Day, the fourth film in the Holland-starring Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man series.

Additionally, with the box office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Zendaya has unofficially become the reigning box office queen of 2026. She and Holland also starred in The Odyssey, which passed the $700 million milestone at the worldwide box office. She co-starred in the sleeper hit The Drama earlier this year with Robert Pattinson. And she’s set to reappear with Pattinson in Dune: Part Three later this year.

It makes Holland and Zendaya the biggest couple in Hollywood — as far as box office. Together, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day set the biggest domestic box office weekend ever recorded, bringing in roughly $430 million across North America.
