Terry Crews is under fire for sharing his thoughts on the tumultuous moments the country has been experiencing following George Floyd’s death. He decided to open up about his thoughts on “black supremacy” and “white supremacy.”
On Sunday evening, Crews tweeted: “Defeating White supremacy without White people creates Black supremacy. Equality is the truth. Like it or not, we are all in this together.”
\u201cDefeating White supremacy without White people creates Black supremacy. Equality is the truth.\n\nLike it or not, we are all in this together.\u201d— Terry Crews (@Terry Crews) 1591572354
This tweet while tone-deaf is also an attack on the work that organizers and protestors have been creating to invoke change nationwide. Beginning with protests and a riot in Minneapolis, all 50 states have organized events to prove George Floyd’s death and other victims of police violence and vigilante shootings did not die in vain. Recent examples include Breonna Taylor, Ahmad Arbery and Sean Reed.
To be clear, dismantling white supremacy and racism are high on the list of what Black Americans have been concerned about for centuries, not Black supremacy. Crews is airing out his problematic thoughts as Black Americans coping with grief, heartache, and being fed up with over policing and the violence police wreak on Black communities.
Months ago when Gabrielle Union spoke out about her treatment on America’s Got Talent, Crews emerged and shared his unsolicited opinion. He claimed he never experienced racism while on set of the show and diminished her accounts. Crews later apologized.
After his initial tweet, he continued defending his views. These responses are below.
A few Twitter users shared their opinions on Crews’ "black supremacy" tweets, take a look at their tweets below.
