Szjerdene Explores New, Beautiful Darkness On The Quays-Produced "Find Me"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Opening with a low, menacing hum, Szjerdene's latest release plunges her beautiful voice into a dark place. "Find Me" has the British vocalist stepping into a role that's more femme fatale than her wispy damsel, crooning out in sultry tones that if can somehow reach her, she is ours. "Pick up those pieces they lead to me / Don't worry, you'll find me" she muses, sounding more patient and confident in her vocal powers than ever. Nocturnal fans of FKA Twigs will find very much to love inside the humid paradise of "Find Me."

Much credit goes to producer Quays, who's dappled his bass and bone dry snares with just enough brightness to give things scale and shadow. It'd be easy to hear "Find Me" as one slow, spinning journey downward to carnal bliss, but that's not quite the case. "Find Me" premiered Tuesday via the Fader, and in an email Szjerdene told them that the song's object is herself; its mode is "self-reflection." "Everything you hear is a fraction of what goes on inside of my head. Working with Quays to record and develop my untamed trains of thought has been a blessing!"

With the Lapalux-produced "Closure" and her most recent single "Are You Here," 'dene is steadily building a personal catalog of shimmering R&B moments, and proving that she is much, much more than a featured artist footnote to Bonobo's recent projects. Listen to "Find Me" below and keep an eye on iTunes--it'll be available for purchase on July 24th.
