LargeUp Premiere: Suns Of Dub Version "Fall In Love" In Tribute To J Dilla

Major Lazer Suns of Dub mixtapeSuns of Dub J Dilla tribute

Suns of Dub--who already blew the mind-dust out our New York industry heads when they covered Augustus Pablo with a little help from The Roots at the Okayplayer Holiday Jam--are set to do the same for the rest of y'all. Paying tribute to the late great J Dilla, the crew have made their dubby remix of "Fall In Love" by Slum Village (Gully Village, perhaps?) available for free download in honor of Dilla month. Featuring Augustus' real-life son Addis Pablo on melodica over a spacey rockers take on the classic SV beat, the version represents a Yasiin Gaye-level colliding of worlds to serious dub heads who are also Dilla fanatics (hi, that's me). Get the backstory via LargeUp and then scroll down to stream or download.

Suns of Dub’s mix of Slum Village’s “Fall In Love” was easily one of our favorite tunes on their self-titled mixtapepremiered right here in December. There’s no real rocket science involved: Suns (at the suggestion of mixtape producer Walshy Fire) had their Addis Pablo play on top of the J Dilla-produced instrumental, creating a conversation between Addis’ melodica (in place of T3 and Baatin’s verses) and Dilla’s haunting hook.

In honor of J Dilla Month (the late producer’s 40th birthday was Feb. 7, and he also passed away during the month of February), Suns of Dub have shared the remix, available for the first time as a standalone track. Cop it below, hear more from Suns of Dub at their Soundcloud and go behind the scenes with Addis (son of the late Augustus Pablo) and Sons of Dub cohort Ras Jammy in our “Meditations” documentary series.
