Yasiin Gaye! The name kind of says it all but in case you need us to unpack that statement a bit for you, Amerigo Gazaway of Gummy Soul renown--the evil genius behind the Fela Soul and Bizarre Tribe conceptual mixtapes ("mashups"; "lost albums"--whatever you want to call them) hath returned from beyond to announce a new project dropping February 25th, which fuses two of the Mos beautifulest things in the world into one musical peanut butter cup. Before you pick up the two hemispheres of your brain off the floor and attempt to fit them back together, we better state upfront that this is apparently the first installment of a whole new series called "Soul Mates"--here's what we know about the project:

Gazaway's new *Soul Mates* series continues the theme of his previous work in creating collaborations that never were. On the series’ first installment, the producer unites Brooklyn rapper Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and soul legend Marvin Gaye for a dream collaboration aptly titled “Yasiin Gaye”. Building the album's foundation from deconstructed samples of Gaye’s Motown classics, Gazaway re-orchestrates the instrumentation into new productions within a similar framework. Carefully weaving Bey’s dense raps and Gaye’s soulful vocals over his new arrangements, the producer delivers a quality far closer to Gaye's famous duets than that of a "mashup" album.

As proof that this is really happening and not just a music-nerd dream you had, Okayplayer is extremely amped to present the trailer for the project as well as the first leak "Inner City Travellin' Man." Watch and listen below, then go to bandcamp to get it from the source (you can go ahead an locate your hemispheres now).
