Spike Lee made his remarks against Donald Trump during an acceptance speech at a film critics awards show.

Spike Lee used a recent awards acceptance speech to call out Donald Trump and the divisiveness he incited up until his final days as president.

While accepting a special prize from the New York Film Critics Circle for his short film New York, New York, Lee condemned the former U.S. president in a speech that was pre-recorded on January 6, shortly after the riot at the U.S. Capitol.

“It’s a very sad day in the history of America. The whole world is laughing at the United States of America, the so-called cradle of democracy. … We’re at a crossroads now, and everybody please be safe. This is not a game. These people got guns with ammunition. I hope to God that I’m wrong, but people are gonna get killed behind this bullshit,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “This president, President Agent Orange, will go down in history with the likes of Hitler. These guys — all his boys — they’re going down on the wrong side of history.”

After his acceptance speech at the 2019’s Oscars — where he won best adapted screenplay for BlacKkKlansman — Lee offered a speech that Trump referred to as a “racist hit on your President,” even though the director didn’t directly mention the then-president in his speech. Lee ended up responding to Trump’s remarks, saying: “They did the same thing with the African American players who were kneeling, trying to make it into an anti-American thing, an anti-patriotic thing, and an anti-military thing. But no one’s going for that.”
