Robert Glasper Performs Musiq Soulchild's "So Beautiful," Celebrates The Release Of His 'Covered' LP

It's been a great day for Robert Glasper. Not only is the jazz piano genius marking the release of his excellent new Covered LP, a return-to-form record that sees him once again recording in an acoustic trio ensemble, but he's also preparing to set off on an extensive tour in support of the album. To top it all off, new video of Glasper performing a take on Musiq Soulchild's "So Beautiful" has just been released. Backed by bassist Vincente Archer and drummer Damion Reid, Glasper moved with grace through the tune's lush chord progression, playing off of his bandmates to create a brilliant take that, despite its soft timbres, packed riveting intensity. It's textbook Glasper--sly and smirking for all its concentration. The video was filmed live at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, and is quite clearly cut from the same session that yielded his stunning performance of Jhene Aiko's "The Worst," which debuted last month.

"I wanted to do songs by friends of mine, and it is one of my favorite songs of the last few years," Glasper told Billboard, who debuted the "So Beautiful" clip. "It is Musiq's best vocal performance so I was really feeling it. And the message of the song is really beautiful." Glasper, Reid and Archer will be taking Covered out on the road this summer on an extensive tour itinerary that includes stops on the West Coast, Canada and Europe. Read the full list of live dates below and head over to Revive to watch Glasper's amazing turn on "So Beautiful."
