Watch Robert Glasper Turn Out A Moving Cover Of Jhene Aiko's "The Worst"

Less than a month remains until Robert Glasper's new jazz trio LP, Covered, hits the marketplace. Still, the anticipation is almost more than we can bear, and to slake our collective thirsts, Glasper has just dropped visuals of a new live performance of Jhene Aiko's "The Worst," one of the many cover cuts that will appear on Covered (naturally).

Backed by bassist Vincente Archer and drummer Damian Reid, Glasper's take accentuates the wounded desire of Aiko's original, his piano runs patiently winding their way around the song's "I don't need you" refrain. The clip was recorded live at Capital Studios in Los Angeles, which is where Glasper cut Covered late last year--perhaps this is the exact rendition we can expect to hear on the final LP? Regardless, the staid trio approach to Aiko's tune sits in stark contrast to the Black Radio material Glasper produced over the last three years. It's a calmer, gentler approach, perhaps but also loaded with simmering passion. That same passion was evident his cover of Radiohead's "Reckoner," the first single off Covered which dropped last month.
