This Christmas, Hidden Figures, a film that champions the collective and respective genius of three black women in putting John Glenn into orbit will hit theaters. It stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monaé as the trio of data-collecting NASA engineers and its soundtrack is wholly composed my Pharrell and Hans Zimmer (who previously collaborated on "The Magnificent Six" from The Amazing Spider Man 2 soundtrack.)
In late summer, Pharrell teased his Motown-inspired compositions for the OST at the film's Toronto International Film Festival premiere. Today, however, the studio versions of "Runnin'" and "Surrender" have arrived and are as infectiously stellar as we'd imagined, built over lean throwback soul with the latter featuring the incomparable vocal stylings of one Lalah Hathaway. You can hear both tracks in the players below, just be sure to scroll on to peep the full trailer for Hidden Figures while you're down there. The film arrives in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day, though no firm date for the soundtrack's release has been announced just yet. You can also pick up copies of the new soundtrack cuts via iTunes today.
