Jay-Z was in attendance as FIFA World Cup play took place in Philadelphia on Sunday, June 14, watching as Ivory Coast scored a 1-0 victory over Ecuador. Jay’s Roc Nation sports agency has been making major moves in the soccer world, pulling in the Chelsea FC club as a client and repping young soccer star Yan Diomande, who took the field for Cote D’Ivoire against Ecuador.
The match was Philadelphia’s first of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and it featured a late winner and some added star power in the suites at Lincoln Financial Field. Philadelphia is hosting matches involving nine teams during the tournament: Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Brazil, Haiti, France, Iraq, Curacao, Croatia and Ghana.
It was a busy sports week for Jay Z — who also was on hand for game three of the New York Knicks NBA Finals series against the San Antonio Spurs. On Sunday, the superstar was on the field ahead of the game and he talked with Diomande ahead of Ivory Coast’s big win, per FourFourTwo. Amad Diallo scored a 90th-minute winner as Ivory Coast beat Ecuador in Philadelphia, and the 19-year old Diomande also had a standout game.
“What can I say? I can’t put it into words,” coach Emerse Faé said after the game, per ESPN. “He’s a kid who works hard, has a real team spirit, laughs with everyone and he listens. He listens to the coaching staff whenever we give advice and he tries to do his best, as he’s told. It’s easy to work with someone like Yan.”
Ivorian Football Federation President Yacine Idriss Diallo also presented Jay-Z with a custom jersey. This is Ivory Coast’s fourth time in the World Cup; they have never advanced past the group stage.
Roc Nation Sports signed Diomande back in February.
