Prince's Estate Strikes Deal With Universal Music Publishing Group

"PRINCE Act" Canned By Minnesota Legislature

The estate of Prince has signed a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group to handle the entire catalog, unreleased material also, of the legendary musician. It doesn't look like Jay-Z is involved at all. That extensive catalog includes multiple number one hits such as "Purple Rain,” “Lets Go Crazy,” “Kiss,” and others. It's a catalog that has sold over 100 million albums throughout the world.  This isn't UMPG first dealings with The Purple One, the company served as Prince's publisher from 2001 to 2014. The iconic and legendary musician passed away last April. The Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group, Jody Gersonremarked, “We’re humbled to be entrusted with Prince’s catalog and I’m grateful to my entire team for their work in making this agreement a reality. UMPG is a premiere destination for songwriters because of the meticulous care, focus and passion we bring to creating opportunities for our artists and their body of work. With the timelessness and genius of Prince’s music, there are no limits to what we can achieve working with his estate. Prince’s popularity will only continue to grow around the world.” The fine print nitty gritty of the deal between Prince's estate and Universal Music Publishing Group have not been disclosed though you can read UMPG's press statement regarding the deal here.
