Rising singer Moses Sumney crushed the stage during Okayplayer‘s fifth and final show of the 2014 season at Central Park SummerStage. Armed with a guitar and looping pedal, Sumney downright floored the crowd with the live sampling and expansive soul that form the molten core of his avant garde sound. His performance primed the crowd for a massive set from Blood Orange that capped the series celebrating the 15th anniversary of Okayplayer. Between toasting the site and tearing down the stage, Sumney sat to talk the creative process with OKP TV. He breaks down the genesis of his acclaimed Mid-City Island EP in the sunny clip and discusses the solitude required for him to find the proper rhythm and put the project together with limited resources; Sumney notes that being alone with his thoughts and sounds was a major part of refining and ultimately releasing his work. The other key component was honesty. Check the footage below to get the full rundown from Moses Sumney. Purchase the Mid-City Island EP via iTunes. Stay tuned for more from OKP TV.
