Miguel resurfaces following a slightly controversial exchange on Twitter over the weekend, to perform his r&b smash “Adorn” live in London on Later…With Jools Holland. Miguel’s stop on the late night show coincided with his UK tourdates in support of Alicia Keys on her Set The World On Fire tour, which wraps in Tel Aviv on July 4th. The performance served as a well-timed deviation from a racially charged discussion that swept the internet this past weekend when Miguel replied to a fan’s criticisms with the following:
Im proud of my heritage but honestly, black people are the most judgmental people in the world. Shits sad man.
— Miguel (@MiguelUnlimited) May 27, 2013
His initial comment set the internet ablaze as people responded to his sentiments with a mix of empathy and outright disappointment that found his most avowed fans suddenly choosing sides and even left a few people blocked for their responses to his outburst. Leading a national dialogue on race relations has not proven to be Miguel’s strongest suit. Hopefully the footage of his latest performance will provide an opportunity for all parties involved to get back to focusing on the music. Check the performance below. Look out for Miguel on the road with Alicia Keys in Europe this summer.
