Mayer Hawthorne - "Reach Out Richard"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Mayer Hawthorne approaches this Fathers Day with a heart-warming and somewhat bittersweet ode to his father entitled "Reach Out Richard" - a song that presents truth and true love with fearlessness and grace over sick throwback production. Mayer Hawthorne offers the Steely Dan inspired track as a word of thanks to his father, whose parental concerns are smoothed over as Hawthorne insists "the kid's alright." "Reach Out Richard" is driven home by a simple wish from Hawthorne to be "as good a man as you." The song from his forthcoming LP Where Does This Door Go is produced by Pharrell Williams. Mayer Hawthorne's project is slated to drop on July 16th via Republic Records. Keep an ear out for the album. Listen to Mayer Hawthorne's moving tribute to his father, "Reach Out Richard" below.
