M.I.A. Shares Brand New Track "Swords" + "Broader Than A Border" Video

UPDATE:M.I.A. has shared her new single "Swords" (which soundtracks much of the new video) via her personal Soundcloud page. The three track digital release described below is now available for purchase via iTunes.

After treating fans to a pair of new tracks this spring, M.I.A. is once again back with a dazzling brand new video entitled "Broader Than A Border." Shot on location in India and West Africa, the video features a multitude of dance routines and sword blade theatrics that align with the music's metallic clangs. The video premiered Monday via Apple Music, which has partnered with M.I.A. to release "Broader Than A Border" as a three track single.

Directed and edited by the Sri Lankan herself, the video (whose full title is "Matahdatah Scroll 01 Broader Than A Border") in actuality features two separate songs--"Swords" (which is entirely brand new) and her 2013 Matangi track "Warriors." Frantic and oh so very fun, the new material is very much in line with the electrified dancehall references of M.I.A.'s past work and is perfectly matched by the kinetic (and at some points death-defying) low-fi footage. Watch and prepare to be swept away by a breakneck series of temples, rivers, dances, monuments, crowds and fire.

Taking to Instagram, M.I.A. teased numerous snippets of new video and music over the weekend, some of which can now be seen in "Broader Than A Border." The video and its accompanying music will be available for purchase Tuesday, July 14th via iTunes, but you can watch the full clip below and check out numerous Instagram previews of other presumably new songs after the jump.
