Kendrick Lamar's big week just got a little more exciting. The first-week sales figures for his new album, DAMN., are in and they're setting up another career milestone for the Compton rapper. According to Billboard, DAMN. is headed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart, scoring Kung Fu Kenny his third consecutive top-of-the-chart debut, following last year's untitled unmastered and his 2015 masterpiece, To Pimp a Butterfly.
DAMN. is projected to have sold 475,000 EAU (equivalent album sales,) marking Kendrick's highest-grossing opening week and the second largest of the year, just behind Drake's More Life (505,000 units sold.) This past weekend, Kendrick debuted the album at Coachella as the festival headliner with some heavy nods to Chinese cinema and all of the fire in the world. He returns this coming Sunday for a victory lap, as Billboard is scheduled to reveal the final numbers that morning.
If you've yet to dive into Kendrick Lamar's DAMN., you can revisit selections from the album in this week's edition of The Round-Up below or pick up a copy on iTunes today. A round of applause will soon be in order.
