Buscrates 16-bit Ensemble "In The Distance" from Bama Love Soul's On Deck 2 compilation

If you were not already sysed for On Deck 2Bama Love Soul’s new compilation of future soul chestnuts (Do they still have chestnuts in the future? you might reasonably ask. They do, it turns out) then Buscrates 16-bit Ensemble is here to change all that. Okayplayer is proud to host the world premiere of his/their vibey jazzfunk stomper “In The Distance,” which will give you a good taster of what to expect from the BLS crew and the rest of the goodness they’ve assembled for your listening pleasure on OD2.

“In The Distance” is a fine title–and nicely conveys the expansive space of the track–but if I was naming this particular beat, I probably would have gone with something more along the lines of “Atomic Dog In A Pleasant Mood When The Sun Comes Out.” Which probably gives you a better idea of the diverse influences housed within that space, from Dilla to P-Funk to Sun Ra to Lonnie Liston Smith. This is a double teaser in a way because Buscrates is also known to true heads as 1/2 of the group Extra Medium, and we should be hearing more from their section soon as well. Stay tuned (On Deck 2 drops this coming Tuesday, February 11th) and stream “In The Distance” below:
