Frank Ocean's 'Channel Orange' Returns To Billboard 200 Years Later

With the delayed release of Boys Don't CryFrank Ocean fans are so eager for new material from him that they placed his four-year-old album back on Billboard's Top 200.

Over the last week, Ocean's 2012 debut Channel Orange sold the equivalent of 5,000 album units and saw a 40 percent increase of listeners from the previous week. The album also had 7 million on demand audio and video streams last week, according to Complex.

Those numbers place it at no. 146 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Before now, the last time the album had appeared on the chart was in May 2013.

Ocean's sophomore Def Jam album Boys Don't Cry has been spoken about since 2015, and fans have tripped over themselves searching and hoping for release dates. It seemed to be a possibility in July, when Ocean had a web site that had a card that showed a scribbled July 2016 date at the bottom.

The New York Times reported that Boys Don't Cry would see a Friday, Aug. 5 release on Apple Music. And on Aug. 1, a mysterious live stream surfaced on the site as well. But again, no formal release of the album itself yet.

Album sales often rise when artists die, or when they have a live performance or tribute at an award show. But rarely do numbers rise just because fans are anxious for a new record.

Only time will tell when and if Boys Don't Cry will see the light of day, but Ocean's fans will definitely be waiting.
