Estelle, Gary Clark Jr. & Vintage Trouble Talk About Working With Booker T. Jones

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.Gary Clark Jr. speaks n working with soul legend Booker T. Jones on his new album 'Sound The Alarm'

Soul legend Booker T Jones drops his new album Sound The Alarm via the immortal Stax Records tomorrow, Tuesday June 25th. And we say 'legend' we mean that The President Of The United States has openly declared that we wants to replace "Hail To The Chief" with Booker T's classic "Green Onions." Thats what you call clout. Still soul music's elder statesman can still run with the young dogs on the scene and in this exclusive clip he and several of his collaborators--UKplayers Estelle and Vintage Trouble, Mayer Hawthorne, Kori Withers (daughter of Booker T's oldtime sparring partner Bill Withers)  young blues savior Gary Clark, Jr. (who also knows a thing or two about Presidential Soul) and a grip of others talk about the experience of working in the studio with the soul giant. Sound The Alarm also features Booker T's collaborations with Anthony Hamilton, Luke James and Sheila E. (!)  among others.

Okayplayer had the chance to get with Booker T via phone for an interview of our very own, in which he shared some of the anecdotes about how he recruited each of these new soul mutants into the team, Professor X-style. Stay tuned for that to go live shortly. In the meantimes, after you watch the in-studio interviews (Okayplayer Exclusive!) scroll down to stream the title track, featuring Hawthorne (which world-premiered right here on Okayplayer) then hit the link to own this brand new piece of trouble for yourself.
