Watch Elle Varner Perform "Cold Case" Live On 106 & Park

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Elle Varner graced the stage at 106 & Park this past Monday when she visited the show to promote new music off her upcoming album. Sporting a fringed mini-dress and warm earth tones, Elle exuded confidence as she strutted on up to hosts Bow Wow & Keshia Chanté to speak on her journey to confidence in her femininity, her awkward encounters with male admirers and the developing original genre she calls "trap jazz."

"It's an open letter. It's my heart. It's my feelings. It's my growth," explained Elle Varner when asked about her musical mindset on her new project. "I talked about a lot of the coming-of-age things that girls go through and now I'm a young woman and going through different stuff, so you'll hear about it."

Elle Varner speaks more about her coming to age when asked about her original sound "trap jazz," defining her sonic signature as a culmination of those sounds that most influenced her as a young singer. "It's the product of a girl who grew up listening to Ying Yang Twins and Ella Fitzgerald. I like to keep the beat rocking, but I have those jazzy vocals. I can't get away from that."

Elle Varner assures those fans familiar with her 2012 debut album Perfectly Imperfect that she has been working on new music for a follow-up album. She has four new songs from this upcoming project posted on her website, one of which she performed Monday with her live band on 106 & Park called "Cold Case."

"Cold Case" will also be featured on the BET Music Matters album which showcases those artists making innovative strides in today's industry. The compilation is scheduled to be released next Monday, June 23rd in stores and on iTunes, featuring artists like Miguel, Big Sean, Marsha Ambrosius and Elle as well as new artists like Mack Wilds, Mali Music, and Adrian Marcel.
