Dave Chappelle follows up the recent announcement of Radio City dates with an appearance on David Letterman's late-night program to discuss the new members of his family, his departure from the public eye and how he's been dealing with it in the years since. After professing his love for babymaking, the (true) king of comedy explained how the media blew up the departure from his legendary Comedy Central series and subsequent trip to Africa as a sort of mental break down, as opposed to the two-week break from the madness of US celebrity culture he needed.
Chappelle gave a brutally honest take on how he had been affected by foregoing that sizable payday, making one of the most poignant observations of wealth this writer may have ever heard:
"I’m at a restaurant with my wife, its a nice restaurant and we’re eating dinner. I look across the room and say, ‘You see this guy across the room. He has $100 million dollars, and we’re eating the same entree. Ok, fine, I don’t have $50 million dollars or whatever. Let’s say I have $10 million in the bank, the only difference between having $10 million dollars and $50 million dollars is an astounding $40 million dollars."
Once he had wrapped up his little moment of commiseration, Chappelle announced that yet another date is being added to his run at Radio City, capping off his nearly two week stay with Nas and a 40-piece orchestra for that "out in a blaze of glory moment." Tickets for all of these amazing nights at the historic venue can be purchased via Ticketmaster today. Get reacquainted with the funniest man on the planet below.
