Chet Faker has fired off yet another remix of his infectious single "1998" (he's already dropped a full EP of reworks) this time bringing California-based vocalist Banks on board to create a sultry duet vibe that's almost too smooth for SoundCloud. Structurally, the new remix is quite similar to the original recording, which appeared on Faker's debut 2014 LP Built On Glass. A couple of slight changes to its jaunty synth bass are clear, but things really open up as Banks enters for verse 2. Another artist who has made seduction her primary currency, Banks performs admirably as a wispy compliment to Faker's full, emotive voice. Is it a groundbreaking new rendition? Hardly, but then the groove of "1998" has a shelf life that might outlast all of us.
We heard new notes from Faker only weeks ago when he dropped "Bend," a funky guitar-laden single that never quite made it onto Built On Glass. The neo-R&B star is currently in the midst of a busy tour schedule, and so while what we'd love most of all is a completely new project, these piecemeal tracks are more than enough to tide us over. Listen to the new Banks-augmented remix of "1998" below, and check out Faker's touring itinerary after the jump. And to think, we used to be friends.
