AURRA Teams With The Almighty Dam-Funk To Drop The New Single "Somebody" From The Forthcoming 'Body Rock' LP Dropping Later This Year On Family Groove Records.

Audio Premiere: AURRA x DâM-FunK - "Somebody" (DâM-FunK Re-Freak) + 7" x 2 Gatefold Vinyl Pre-Order

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Geniuses of the Paradise Garage era, AURRA teams with DâM-FunK to drop the "Somebody" (DâM-FunK Re-Freak) single ahead of their forthcoming Body Rock LP, which is slated to drop in fall 2014 via Family Groove Records. The single from Slave's Steve Washington and P-Funk singer Sheila Horne Brody is the latest to surface from the project, originally recorded for Quincy Jones' Qwest Records in 1984. The "Somebody/DâM-FunK Re-Freak" single arrives via digital download and double 7-inch Gatefold vinyl just in time to entice fans curious to hear the full collection of tracks or to get a jump on adding this gem to their collections when it drops on July 1st. DâM-FunK's appearance follows his ultra funky outings with Snoopzilla and Washington's Slave bandmate, Steve Arrington. His infectious contribution amps up the levels of stank just enough to launch the track into space with a booster shot of synthy goodness that is sick and sufficiently dirty. The single arrives with a note from AURRA about the significance of the recording, the remix and the painstaking work that went into preserving the integrity the original:

Somebody' is the first single from the new Aurra album ‘Body Rock’ due out later this year on Family Groove Records.

Once again the world gets to experience a lost disco-funk masterpiece providing another glimpse into the Genius mind of Slave founding-member Steve Washington & Brides Of Funkenstein / P-Funk singer Sheila Horne Brody. Body Rock will be the second and final unearthing of the lost but found Master Tapes for the Aurra album originally recorded for Quincy Jones' Qwest imprint in 1984.

The 24-track master tapes were transferred digitally and then mixed on an SSL board by Kamal Humphrey at his all-analog Flying Carpet Studios in Los Angeles. The result is a full sound enhanced by the natural analog process using today's digital technology only when needed to clean up the files.

DāM-FunK adds a bit of dirt and grime by putting his signature Re-Freak on the track. A confirmation from Los Angeles’ Ambassador of Boogie Funk that this is in fact the the un-cut funk and nothing but the funk.

As if the release of the single and the impending Body Rock LP were not enough, rumor has it Steve Washington may be reuniting with Arrington and Slave/AURRA vocalist Curt Jones. Chew on that. Check the track below to listen to "Somebody" (DâM-FunK Re-Freak). Pre-order the "Somebody/DâM-FunK Re-Freak" single as a digital download or 7" x 2 Gatefold Jacket vinyl set via Bandcamp. Stay tuned for more from AURRA.
