OKP Premiere: Ana Tijoux Returns With "Somos Sur"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Since the last time we premiered a track from South American super heroine Ana Tijoux she has covered Lauryn's "Doo Wop (That Thing)" with Quantic and got her track "1977" placed on Breaking Bad, which in 2014 is probably better than having President Obama tweeting about your art. Now Ana's back with a new album Vengo about to hit the streets (Tuesday, March 18th) and Okayplayer is proud to premiere the new single "Somos Sur" a perfect storm of brass band and jeep beats that might just mug Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop" for its .99¢ leopard mink coat. Yet another demonstration of Ana's range, which runs the spectrum from folky to soulful to fierce, not to mention her strong foundation in Latin American movements like gaita, cuatro and cavaquinho. Call it pre-Colombian soul or--to put it in a bigger frame--if you in any way fux with Manu Chao (y'all already know I do) I would heart-ily recommend you get down with la programa. Stream "Somos Sur" below, listen to her track "Creo En Ti" via the homies at Wax Poetics and pre-order Vengo (via iTunes).
