Looks like fans aren’t going to get an Alchemist versus Madlib beat battle anytime soon.
The beat and songwriter battles that have been talking place on Instagram (Timbaland versus Swizz Beatz; The Dream versus Sean Garrett; Ne-Yo versus Johnta Austin) have inevitably led to fans requesting who they would like to see battle next (including one strange pairing between Quincy Jones and Kanye West).

Among the pairings that have come up is Alchemist and Madlib, but in a recent interview the former dismissed the possibility of battling the latter and conceited defeat well before it could happen.

The topic came about as Elliott Wilson mentioned to Alchemist that fans wanted to see him go up against Madlib.
“Madlib would absolutely destroy me. Are you crazy, man? I ain’t going up against that man,” the LULU producer said. “Madlib is like my idol. That’s my brother, too. He’s in another planet on his own. He’s his own genre.”

Maybe someone can convince him to reconsider but it looks like we’ll just have to imagine what a beat battle between the two producers could’ve been.
Alchemist recently appeared on Conway the Machine’s LULU EP, as well as Boldy James’ The Price of Tea in China album. Madlib has reportedly finished producing the new Black Star album alongside Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli, but it’s unknown when the album will be released.
