2017 Golden Globe Nominations: 'Moonlight,' 'Atlanta,' Issa Rae & More

Moonlight: Is This Impressive Film Hollywood's Best Movie of 2016? [Review]

This past Sunday night marked the 22nd Critics' Choice Awards, as well as the beginning of the 2017 awards season, with the next awards ceremony being the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards.

The forthcoming Golden Globe Awards is notable for a number of reasons. For the first time in award history three black women (Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Naomie Harris) are all nominated for Best Supporting Actress. As for TV, Issa Rae has landed herself a nomination for best actress for a comedy series thanks to well received show Insecure, while Donald Glover's Atlanta is up for best comedy and best actor. Hopefully Glover will end up taking both home; at the Critics' Choice Awards he ended getting the best actor win, but lost the best comedy award to Silicon Valley (which led to an interesting moment that involved Atlanta co-star Keith Stanfield).

Also Moonlight, which has had a stellar reception, is up for nominations in six different categories, including Best Director.

Check out the list of major nominees for TV, film and music below; find the full list of nominees here.

The Golden Globe Awards (which will be hosted by Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon) will air on January 8, 2017.
