Prince also cracked jokes at George Clinton’s fashion choices too.
Speaking with Vogue, Clinton talked about how a criticism of the Purple One’s early fashion sense led to a change.
“When he first started out, he was wearing what looked like waiter costumes,” Clinton said. “I told him, ‘Your whole thing is cool, except for the waiter suits. Looks like you work in a nightclub or restaurant.’ From that day forward, Prince started having all of his garments custom-made. We used to crack on each other’s clothes.”
However, Prince also clowned the P-Funk artist too, most notably when Clinton used to wear a diaper during some of his performances in the late ’60s and early ’70s.
“He said, ‘Man, you gotta get rid of that diaper,'” Clinton recalled.
Earlier this year, Clinton announced his retirement from touring with Parliament-Funkadelic.
“It’s never really been about me. It’s always been about the music and the band,” Clinton previously said. “This has been coming a long time. Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years has noticed that I’ve been out front less and less.”
Even though Clinton will be retiring from the group it doesn’t seem as if he’ll be retiring from music. The artist still has a solo project with Flying Lotus that has yet to be released.
