Cray, YOLO, and twerk make room. There's a new word with hip-hop origins that is being added to the Oxford dictionary.

That word is "Stan."Here is how the dictionary defined the word:

An overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.

While obviously the name Stan has been around forever— shout out Stan Lee — Stan, in the context of someone acting obsessively over someone, was birthed by Eminem. In 2000, Eminem released the now-classic single "Stan," a song about a depressed, "overzealous" fan who writes a number of crazed, obsessive letters to the rapper.

While the song birthed the word, It didn't really become part of everyday language until Nas used it, when he called Jay Z a "Stan" on "Either."

In Oxford's origin section, they gave mention to Eminem...but not to Nas:

Early 21st century: probably with allusion to the 2000 song “Stan” by the American rapper Eminem, about an obsessed fan.

Someone needs to hit up Oxford about giving Nas some credit.
