Birdman on Nicki Minaj: “She’s got it, hands down.”

In an interview on Apple’s Beats 1 Radio Tuesday, Birdman hailed Nicki Minaj as the greatest woman in rap history.

“To me, Nicki is the best female ever in hip-hop history,” the rapper and Cash Money Records co-founder told show host, Ebro Darden.

“And her numbers don’t lie,” he added, noting that Minaj helped further transition rap into mainstream spaces where she’s able to co-exist amongst artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Katy Perry. “That shit never been done before,” he said.

Ebro made note of women in hip-hop like Lil Kim and Missy Elliott who also contributed to that transition. “Kim took it far. Missy took it far,” he said, to which Birdman replied, “They took it, but not to that level.”

He added, “She’s just an icon. They got enough room in this game for everybody.”

Birdman went on Beats 1 to promote Before Anythang: The Cash Money Story soundtrack which was released yesterday. During the interview, he touched on the success of Cash Money artists Drake and Lil Wayne, who he says have “single-handedly held this shit down.”

He also examine Drake’s career and influence, saying, “He had a vision, and he focused, and he stayed on his vision and completed his mission. Drake is the biggest artist in the world.”
