After impressing viewers with its first batch of episodes this past September, Marvel's Netflix series Luke Cage has been renewed for an additional season.
The show revealed the news in a brief video message posted on its official Twitter account Sunday.
Luke Cage is based on the Marvel Comics hero of the same name: a black man from Harlem, New York City with impervious skin and superhuman strength. Actor Mike Colter played the superhero, returning after being introduced to viewers the year before as a recurring character on another Marvel Netflix series, Jessica Jones.Cage would wear bullethole-tattered hoodies while beating up bad guys and protecting his neighborhood.
Viewers loved the increased amount of black characters in a Marvel universe that is usually whitewashed. But the show also had strong performances by Mahershala Ali, Simone Missick, and Frankie Faison, and a general senseof black dialogue and feel put together by showrunner and former music journalist Cheo Hodari Coker. The show also had a fantastic soundtrack, put together by Adrian Younge and A Tribe Called Quest Co-Founder Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Its praise has earned it a strong 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
