Kurupt Says Eminem Helped Pay for His Rehab
Tha Dogg Pound lyricist shared how two of his most famous colleagues stepped in when he was at his darkest.
Kurupt has been fairly open about his health and his struggles with alcoholism. One half of Tha Dogg Pound, Kurupt appeared on Sway In the Morning, where he revealed that hip-hop icons Eminem and Dr. Dre played a part in getting him into rehabilitation. Years of alcoholism, at one point, left him in a coma for three weeks. That’s when Dre and Em stepped in.
“It was Dr. Dre that called me, literally, and was just giving his support and letting me know that we all go through these things. He was just giving me that game,” he said.
Kurupt went on to share that Eminem later got a message to him through Dre, offering to help him get treatment. “I’m going to put Kurupt with my folks and put some money into getting him into a rehab situation where he can sit it down, enjoy himself, and be out of the way,” Kurupt recalled Em saying. “Nobody knows he’s there.” Dr. Dre also passed along another message from Eminem. “Tell Kurupt I love him,” Dr. Dre relayed.
Kurupt said that their help came along at one of the darkest chapters in his life.

“That was really special to me,” he shared. “I appreciate both of them so much. It’s like, damn, you know, he just came out of the blue from nowhere,” he said.
Eminem has also been famously open about his own struggles with addiction, including his near-fatal overdose in 2007.
Back in January, Kurupt (born Ricardo Brown) made headlines when it was reported that he was in critical condition. His Dogg Pound mate, Daz Dillinger, called for well wishes on social media.
“GOD SAID WE SHALL LIVE & NOT DIE,” Dillinger wrote. “Want to send a big shout out to my big brother @official_kurupt get well speedy recovery. Need all FANZ to send Kurupt a get well message. Flood his Instagram tell him how much we love him. Rest in peace to my cousin, Joe, cool Nate Dogg and others that we lost so I need everybody to hit Kurupt and let them know that we love HIM from his little brother Daz. Life is serious. Shout out to @leelee_calinanita for holding it down, Dogg Pound gangstaZ 4 LIFE GOD 1st.”
Kurupt just dropped his collaborative album, Tales From My Hood, with DJ Battlecat back in late July. He is currently readying his anticipated project with Rakim and Masta Killa, The Godbody, which is due in September.
