Kanye West Pays Tribute to Kobe Bryant In Late Night Sunday Service

West was joined by Chance the Rapper during his latest edition of his critically acclaimed concert series.

Kanye West, Chance the Rapper and Kirk Franklin held a special Sunday Service gospel performance last night honoring Kobe Bryant.

During the tribute Kanye sang, “I was driving home/They was leaving your jersey on the freeway, and I just broke down, broke down, broke down.” Franklin was shown in the video sharing a few words of encouragement. Chance the Rapper solemnly rapped his verse from "Ultralight Beam," he appeared to be fighting back tears.

On Twitter, West wrote a post dedicated to Byrant. It read “Kobe, We love you brother. We’re praying for your family and appreciate the life you’ve lived and all the inspiration you gave.” It was shared with a photo from a 2010 studio session.

Bryant passed in a helicopter accident in Calabasas, California yesterday morning alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other passengers. At the 2020 Grammys, a few performers spoke about the NBA legend. During her opening performance, Lizzo shared “This is for Kobe,” following this Alicia Keys and Boyz II Men sang a rendition of “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye to Yesterday.”

Additionally, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus referenced Bryant during their “Old Town Road” performance. Joseph “Run” Simmons held up a Bryant Los Angeles Lakers jersey during Run DMC’s “Walk This Way” moment alongside Aerosmith.

Elsewhere during the Grammys, after DJ Khaled, Meek Mill, John Legend and Roddy Rich’s Nipsey Hussle tribute, Hussle was shown on an enlarged screen next to an image of Bryant.
