How to Be Outside, Inside with Tiffani Williams

The seasoned fashion stylist and ‘vibes doyenne’ shares her favorite NYC food spots, live music outposts and inspirational sanctuaries.

Inimitable style, class, sophistication, originality, and a healthy scoop of rebellious energy — those are just a few of the qualities you get when Tiffani Willians is on set styling a major fashion shoot or brand campaign. You’ve seen her brilliant creative eye and vision adorned by some of the biggest names in the game:Busta Rhymes, A$AP Ferg, Stormzy, Vybz Kartel, Protoje. I’ve had the distinct pleasure of working with her for an OkayAfrica cover shoot with Ghanaian superstar, Black Sherif, and it was extremely cool to see her in action. The images were incredible too.

In this week’s edition of How to Be Outside, Inside, the Brooklyn resident and downtown NYC aficionado shares her best spots for dining, catching live music and finding inspiration.

Okayplayer: When you want to be “outside” without really being outside, where do you go in NYC?

Tiffani Williams: When I want to be "outside" without really being outside in NYC, I take it as an opportunity to continue my love affair with the city and discover. Not just places, but specific moods that I am in.

There is my inspirational mood, which consists of museums (Whitney, Moma, Studio Museum). Then there’s my musical mood, Lunatico and Green Room (they have the best live music). Kissa Kissa (Listening Bar), All Blues, another listening bar. For my vibes mood, there’s Aliya, and Aunts et Uncles. And then of course, there is my food mood, which is my strongest northern star, Thai Diner, Food, Lure, Tyger and Rolo’s

Where do you go when you want to be around people, but not overwhelmed by people?

Home!!! Lol. My recharge time is very important.

What does your perfect NYC day look like, from morning to night?

I love this question. The perfect day in NYC is not planned. Some of my best days have been me leaving the house early in the a.m. and not getting home until the wee hours the next day. No plan... just going with the flow.
