Doja Cat got real about her own struggles with mental health issues. Recently, the 30-year-old shared a TikTok video in which she explained that she’s been battling borderline personality disorder and said that she’s been exhibiting certain behaviors since she was a child.
"I've learned from a very young age to pretend that I like stuff, to pretend that I'm happy, to pretend that I don't like stuff that I do to appear like everything is OK," Doja Cat said in the video. "I'll get it done. And it caught up with me, and I think it always does for people. I'm now struggling with BPD."
She shared that she’s struggling with the disorder for "probably forever.”
"It's an agonizing condition,” she added.
“I've been in therapy for years now, and I am so relieved and so proud of myself," she shared. "I've made it so far and I still make mistakes, but it is an eight-year process of curing, treatment and healing."
Born Amala Dlamini, Doja Cat was moved to discuss mental health while sharing her admiration for Chappell Roan. Doja defended Roan after she was recently seen filming fans and paparazzi after asking them to leave her alone. While acknowledging that she is not trying to diagnose Roan, she said her behavior is encouraging.
"I love that she can be uncomfortable comfortably in front of people and protect herself,” Doja said. “I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years — for most of my life — and to see her sit there, I love it. I love that she can do that without hurting people. She hasn’t hurt one person by being herself, and that shows that I can do the same...
"Let her have an attitude, because I would love to have one as well, and I f***ing will, hopefully in the future.”
