Doja Cat is telling you who she is. After years of back-and-forth on social media about the style of music she makes, Doja is making it official. She addressed the ongoing debate during an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, where she was asked which music genre best describes her sound.

"Pop,” said Doja. “I think I'm a rapper who makes pop music.”

She’s prepping her new album, Vie, for release. It’s due to drop Sept. 26. She says this project, which is her follow up to 2023s Scarlet, was inspired by classic sounds of past decades. She released the lead single, “Jealous Type,” in August, a slinky dance track with an 1980s feel.

She also previewed a brief snippet of her next single, “Gorgeous.”

"I wanted to play with that nostalgia by using these Lo-Fi sounds and samples and things that reminded you of something from your childhood, but it wasn't on the nose '80s," said Doja.

She also gushed about her musical evolution on Vie

“I’m very excited. It’s things I wasn’t able to do before,” she explained. “I couldn’t hit certain riffs or runs — I used to joke about that and pretend to be a singer. But I sucked it up and stopped joking and took myself more seriously.”

Her focus on finishing her album led to Doja canceling an appearance at this year's Austin City Limits Festival. She explained her decision at the time in her Instagram Stories.

"When I made the commitment, I didn't know exactly when Vie would be released," she posted. "I've been working on finalizing the album, making videos, taking the time to put together an album campaign that I am really excited about, and it's become clear to me that I cannot give you guys the show you deserve within this time frame."
