Here's a look at what some influential Black dads have said about fatherhood.

Fatherhood is many, many things, but it's never been easy — even when you're one of the most famous people on the planet. That much becomes clear when you consider just how difficult it is to go about your own life before everyone is watching you do it. Now, just consider doing that while helping someone learn to live their lives, too.

It's not a mission for the faint of heart, but it's something Black fathers do every day. And they do it proudly. To spotlight Black fathers on this year's Father's Day, OKP takes a look at quotes from Black celebs who happily accepted the mission.

See what dads like JAŸ-Z, A$AP Rocky and more have to say about fatherhood for yourself below.

“My children are Black. I feel like the more I put them on social, the safer they are. Any proximity that Black boys can have to some sort of celebrity or access or … status [or] leverage. I’m trying to make sure that they make it home.”

“If I am out with Ryan and the boys, we have a policy of no pictures. And the policy is because they deserve to have a regular night out. It’s their time. Because Ry and I have a certain amount of spotlight or whatnot, doesn’t mean that they should receive less of us.”

“I want to make sure that I teach my boys discipline and keep them grounded, keep them humble as much as possible. Because they could be considered nepo babies. I got to make sure they chill with their cousins, the rough cousins, that’s going keep them on their toes.”

“I didn’t know what the heck that was. And I was like, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’ And we got to making skits and little funny bits, and I realized how naturally talented he was, how funny he was.”

“It taught me true, unconditional love. I’ve never been married because I was never ready for marriage. And I went through this journey with my child, and it taught me to love unconditionally. At the end of the day, are my children happy? And if they’re happy, then I’m happy for them. My job as a father is to protect, respect and honor my children, and make sure they feel supported. It’s not my job to judge them; it’s my job to love them."

“All of my kids are gifts, and our love is the wrapping paper. I’m not here for hate. Transphobia is a form of hate. Homophobia is a form of hate. Racism is a form of hate. All those small-hearted, small-minded people, there’s a hell for you. And if you think you’re gonna bully my child, go somewhere else. It’s not going to happen. I won’t stand for it.”

“I raise my boys to be young men ... they will always be respectful. They will always say, ‘Yes ma’am. No ma’am.’ They will always say ‘Thank you.’ They will always open the door for a lady. They will always make sure that their mother is taken care of and provided for.”

“I think my kids teach me a lot above anything else. But one thing that I will say that, is the best part about watching them grow, for me, is seeing how intelligent they are. My oldest son being 8 years old, one thing about him is he takes accountability. And I love that. He'll take a couple of days and think about something he did and then come back and say, ‘Hey, I just want to let you know, I apologize for what I said the other day.’ At 8 years old, you know what I'm saying? I know a lot of grown people that can't apologize or, you know, don't have the conscience enough to, like, really think about something that they did that was wrong.”

“As a dad, I just want to get to know all my kids as they are and who they are and knowing that they all are different. And knowing that Dad’s going to show up and he’s going to listen. He’s going to learn. He’s going to love you.”

“It gives everything meaning, everything. I’ll go cross-country, do what I have to do, and I’m back on the plane that night. I love taking them to school. I love picking them up. Everything means so much more.”
