50 Cent made an appearance in the procession.

On Thursday afternoon, Brooklyn’s Canarsie neighborhood celebrated the life of Pop Smoke, one of its most promising young stars. The 20-year-old MC born Bashar Barakah Jackson died on February 19 in a shooting in Hollywood, California.

A horse-drawn carriage escorted Jackson’s casket throughout his neighborhood, followed by a procession. According to one Instagram user, 50 Cent and Gunna showed up for the processional.

Jackson’s death came just two weeks after the release of his second mixtape, Meet the Woo 2. After releasing “Welcome to the Party” in April 2019, Jackson quickly rose to prominence in the tri-state area. Subsequently, Nicki Minaj and Skepta added verses for their own remixes.

In the wake of his death, 50 Cent announced his intentions to put together a posthumous album featuring unreleased music.

The Los Angeles Police Department is still actively investigating the shooting. Police have not made any arrests in connection with the case. LAPD captain Johnathan L. Tippet claims conflicting evidence is complicating the case with regards to a motive. Fans have speculated that Instagram posts showing the Hollywood Hills address may have led to the shooting.

“It’s an angle we’re looking at,” Capt. Tippet said a week ago. “It also extends the pool of people that would have known where he was at and could have targeted him for a variety of reasons.”
