Harlem battle rapper Posta Boy has died. He was 43 years old. Known for songs like "Jurassic Harlem," and winning BET's 106 & Park “Freestyle Friday” for seven straight weeks, Posta Boy (born Sharard Dixon) was also public about his years-long battle with cancer.
Artists like Mickey Factz and Skyzoo paid tribute to Posta on social media.
“Damn, RIP Posta Boy,” tweeted Skyzoo. “As a 106 & Park alumni, the run Posta started made that audition line wrap around the corner twice after he retired 7 straight. We all wanted in. Much love to his legacy and strength to his family indeed.”
Speaking to AllHipHop back in 2006, Posta Boy reflected on his initial cancer diagnosis. He shared that he was diagnosed after he noticed swelling near his testicles. After undergoing emergency surgery, he went through five months of chemotherapy to shrink the cancerous mass that eventually spread to his kidneys.
“Before this disease affects the outside, it’s killing your insides,” he explained at the time. “It could be spreading before you know it. Now that I rewind, I used to do a lot of shows and touring and I would be getting sleepy early and my appetite was funny, and that’s what it was. I was thinking, damn P, you’re doing too much. But the reality was that while I was looking good on the outside, I had cancer.”
Posta Boy was inducted into the 106 & Park Hall of Fame.
