We did it, folks. A week past the 21st night of September looking back at an uncharacteristically potent month in music. Especially for the tail-end of the summer.
New albums, foreseen and unannounced alike, unveiled sonic spectacles from Moses Sumney, Kari Faux, The Jet Age of Tomorrow, Syd, Pierre Kwenders and Son Little. All prejects we'll surely fight to the death over by year's end. But as much digging as there's to do, let us take a moment to recount the overlooked moments of excellence in music that have left a dent in our respective rotations. Whether it's the spirited red-eyed confessionals of demo taped, the smokey late-night haunts of Rex Orange County, the bubbly truth bullets of Lizzo, or the new-wave funk of Pierre Kwenders, there's something for all shades, creeds and dispositions. Some of which have been hiding in plain sight deep in the track lists of the month's best full-lengths.
