“Sis said no 🤷🏽‍♀️”

On Friday, Nicki Minaj released her fourth studio album, Queen. The project featured an all-star cast, including appearances from Foxy Brown, Lil Wayne, Future, Ariana Grande, and more.

Today, the Queens rapper shared a cameo that never left the cutting room floor, releasing the Nas collaboration, “Sorry.” The track was reportedly axed from Queen due to sample clearances, as it leans on Shelly Thunder’s “Sorry,” itself heavily indebted to an interpolation of the opening lines to Tracy Chapman’s “Baby Can I Hold You.”

Last week, Minaj made a very public plea to Chapman, asking the singer, “Tracy Chapman, can you please hit me.” She went on to poll her fans, asking whether she should drop the song from the album and keep the date, or hold out for clearance and push the release back. Apparently, the clearance never came, but that didn’t stop the rapper from pulling the trigger just hours after the album’s official release.
