The two MCs premiered the song during the Grammy’s tribute Sunday night.
On the heels of Nipsey Hussle’s two posthumous Grammy awards, Meek Mill and Roddy Ricch premiered their own tribute on Sunday. Stream the official audio of that tribute, “Letter to Nipsey,” above.
Earlier in the evening, Roddy and Nipsey won their first Grammy for “Racks in the Middle.” The Hit-Boy produced track took home honors for Best Rap Performance. “Racks” beat out Gunna and Lil’ Baby’s “Drip Too Hard,” as well as Lil’ Nas X’s “Panini,” and Roddy Ricch’s “Ballin.”
“Higher,” Hussle’s collaboration with DJ Khaled and John Legend, took home Best Rap/Sung Performance honors. Khaled, Kirk Franklin, John Legend and YG performed the track during the tribute. The tribute, held in Los Angeles’ Staples Center, also honored the late Kobe Bryant.
Meek Mill and Nipsey were in the process of creating a joint album shortly before his death. Recently, Puma and Lauren London unveiled Hussle’s upcoming collection. The collection is set to hit shelves on February 1, 2020. Items from the collection are available for pre-order on The Marathon website.
Hussle’s first studio album, the Grammy-nominated Victory Lap, was certified platinum by the RIAA over the weekend. The album received the Best Rap Album nomination at last year’s ceremony. Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy took home the honors, a move which Hussle previously lauded.
All proceeds from “Letter to Nipsey” sales and streaming will go to Hussle’s family.
