Snips - Kamaal vs. Wu-Tang
UK DJ and producer Snips runs wild with a play on Henry Wu’s name, delivering the Kamaal vs. Wu-Tang tape which combines tunes from the producer with bars from the Wu-Tang Clan.
A Re Edited version of Kamaal Williams "The Return" LP. Each track is entirely made of Samples from the original project, right down to drum hits and bass tones. Spliced together and coupled with Wu Tang acapellas as a fitting nod to Kamaal’s "Henry Wu" alias.
Knife Knights - 1 Time Mirage
Ishmael Butler and Erik Blood put on for the Pacific Northwest as Knife Knights with their new project entitled 1 Time Mirage. It would be silly to list all of the features, but you should know that Shabazz Palaces, OCnotes and El Mizell all make appearances.
Knife Knights were born of the love of mystery. From the start of Shabazz Palaces – the groundbreaking project launched in 2009 by former-Digable Planets leader Ishmael Butler – confidentiality seemed essential: Butler wanted Shabazz Palaces to stand on its own strength, not his outsized reputation, so he adopted a nom de plume for himself. As the project’s network expanded, though, he needed new monikers for his partnerships. Knife Knights is the name he gave to his work with Seattle engineer, producer, songwriter, and film composer Erik Blood, a vital force in the Shabazz Palaces universe. Now, after more than a decade of collaboration and the development of a rich friendship, Butler and Blood have made a proper full-length record together as Knife Knights: 1 Time Mirage, an eleven-track odyssey that finds the pair and a cast of their friends weaving together a singular world of soul and shoegaze, hip-hop and lush noise, bass and bedlam. 1 Time Mirage represents a playground for Butler and Blood, a free space for unfettered exploration, and a radically adventurous start to something much more than a mere production duo or side project.
Von Pea & The Other Guys - I'm Good Luv, Enjoy
Von Pea & The Other Guys are back in the habit, this time with some of the Lessondary’s finest on I’m Good Luv, Enjoy.
Von Pea & The Other Guys reunite after the release of their acclaimed EP “To:You” (2014) and their full length LP “The Fiasco” (2017). The “Tanya Morgan” emcee and DMV production duo return with a 5 song EP entitled “I’m Good Luv, Enjoy” laced with the soulful samples, hard hitting drums, and clever rhymes the trio have been known to provide. The EP features fellow Lessondary Crew members Donwill and Rob Cave.
Rasheed Chappell - First Brick
New Jersey’s own Rasheed Chappell drops the long-awaited follow-up to his 2011 Future Before Nostalgia album entitled First Brick. Featured artists include Crimeapple, DJ Scratch, Lil Fame, Hus KingPin and O.C.
Mosel Jabbar - STR8Loops (volume1)
Detroit spitter Mosel Jabbar serves up the fifteen-track prelude to his forthcoming GOD CREAM album entitled STR8Loops (volume 1).
This project took over 10 years of life experience to create. Embrace the musical journey full of highs, lows, wisdom, and learning. Enjoy!
Calvin Valentine - Keep Summer Safe
Musical everyman and Left Coast representative Calvin Valentine closes out the season with the timely and ever fresh Keep Summer Safe.
Calvin Valentine, aka the Bong Mayer, is one of this generations new breed: producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and emcee. Having already produced for legends like De La Soul & Nas, along with complete albums for Illa J, Calvin recently added his name to production credits in the pop realm with Interscope signee Ryan Beatty’s entire new album being helmed by him. He’s licensed music for Nike, Skype, MTV and more with a sound that lends itself to film and television. But the west coast musician is best known in the beat scene for his uncompromising work behind the boards. The Los Angeles based (by way of Oregon) artist is set for his MMG solo debut “Keep Summer Safe.” On it, Calvin lends his lush production, singing, and rhymes to the stoney late summer nights soundtrack.
Peter Rosenberg - Mac Miller Tribute on HOT97
Peter Rosenberg toasts the late Malcolm McCormick aka Mac Miller following the untimely passing of the celebrated Pittsburgh-bred emcee. Rosenberg drops almost two hours of Mac gems in the mix for Real Late on HOT97. Rest In Peace, Mac Miller.
LeFtO - Studio Brussel #751
Back from holiday and dropping gems ahead of a run in the states, LeFtO is spinning the best in new music, deep cuts and more. Episode 751 from Studio Brussel includes cuts from The Roger Webb Sound, Elder Jeffrey Roberson & The New Life Singers, Bas, Slowthai, Fatima and more.
BMac - Clockwork Radio Session 074
Dublin and now Toronto’s own Clockwork Radio is back with BMac at the helm dropping more fire for Session 074.
Session 074 contains a healthy dose of Hip Hop, Soul and Jazz. From Mac Miller, J.Cole and De La Soul to Weldon Irvine, Preston Love and Mary Jane Girls, we're out here connecting decades seamlessly for you. And of course we got some music from the homeland with gems from Rejjie Snow, Kojaque, Luka Palm and M.Kay.
King Britt - DIM137: Fhloston Paradigm
King Britt serves as the spirit guide for the DIM137 mix from Dimensions Festival. King guides listeners through the lush, otherworldly soundscapes of the Fhloston Paradigm with over one hour of deep cuts and soulful electronic music.
As a producer/composer, King Britt fuses his knowledge of music history from many cultures and genres from afro to gospel, soul to disco, bringing sounds from the past into the present. His relentless drive and passion was obvious from en early stage, having cut his craft as the wax poetic for the Grammy Award winning Digable Planets, he's since had a variety of monikers including his sci-fi leaning work as Fhloston Paradigm. We're delighted to have him join our mix series with this 60 minute offering of meandering house and soulful electronic jams. Enjoy.
Marc Meistro - Crab Chips & Lake Trout Vol. 2
Marc Meistro pays tribute to Charm City’s unsung, homegrown electronica with a one-hour mix of Baltimore club tracks appropriately titled Crab Chips & Lake Trout Vol. 2. Dig in, then scroll down for a taste of the original mix.
From the vault! Vol 2 of my short-lived "Crab Chips and Lake Trout" series (there were only 2 volumes) featuring all things house from the often overlooked city of Baltimore, hands down one of the greatest house music cities in world.
Walla P - Modern Funk Mix Vol. 3
Walla P (of the almighty Voyage Funktastique) is on deck to pilot the latest installment of the Modern Funk Mix series for Boogie80 with Modern Funk Mix Vol. 3. Just over thirty minutes in length, the mix features tracks from Monophonic, Opolopo, Par-Le, Buscrates x Laura Bennack and more.
