DJ LotusMoon - A Lil’ Bit Of Honey

Inspired by her mother, DJ LotusMoon drops a little bit of honey for the latest edition of the Black Girl Magik mix series.

Recently, I have been thinking a lot about the ways in which we nurture/replenish the soul and I think for me that has been returning to this idea of "home" in many ways - particularity family…particularly my mother. She inspires me to move through this life always with love and with light. And in my journey as a DJ, much of that blossoms from her; right now, I’m thinking of a Saturday or Sunday morning… Donny Hathaway turned all the way up on the speakers or, hmm, the bass of a House track and the flow of her body just fully immersed in the beat. So yeah, feeling grateful for my momma and blessed to have experienced and listened to a multitude of sounds that reflect the richness of my heritage, specifically the deep pulse and soul that unravels through so many sounds and rhythms of the African and Caribbean Diasporas. And in the present, I speak with and through music to foster a space for our bodies to connect/reconnect with that pulse and soul, re align with ourselves and others, while keeping us infinitely turned in to layers of time.
