John Krasinski and Jimmy Fallon went head to head Tuesday night in a lipsynch battle on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, rocking tunes from Melissa Manchester, Das Efx, Boyz II Men and more. The pair synch their hearts out in a tug-of-war for bragging rights rife with melodrama and comedic gold. Jimmy Fallon attempted to put Krasinki’s chances to bed with his take on a 1984 performance of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” by Star Search champion Sam Harris. His passion-filled interpretation was definitely a punch to the gut, but the show was far from over. John Krasinski had something even bigger up his sleeve, dropping a show-stopping performance of Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love To You” – a rendition so soul-stirring Jimmy Fallon couldn’t resist getting in on the act, making the last song of the battle a duet and John Krasinski the clear winner. The Roots recently had a chance to flaunt their improvisational skills on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The band teamed with host Jimmy Fallon to recruit a couple of willing audience members. Their job was to learn enough about their volunteers to make up songs about them on the fly. Welcome to Freestylin With The Roots – a segment that begins with a Cephus & Reesie inspired intro and ends with a pair of rousing numbers the band makes up on the fly. Their recruits inspire them to sing about Earth Day and flying around planet Chili’s on hover boards in the future. Black Thought and the band deliver a Sinatra-inspired performance that moves seamlessly into rock, proving how versatile and hilarious they truly are. As if that weren’t enough, Jimmy Fallon closes the sketch by presenting The Roots with a platinum plaque for selling 1 million copies of their 1999 LP Things Fall Apart. UPDATE: ?uestlove broke his silence on the subject of the whether The Roots will follow Jimmy Fallon when he moves to the Tonight Show, speaking to Fuse TV at today’spop up performance for RBMA. ?uesto starts off by pointing out that “The Tonight Show is coming to us” and reaffirming what we’ve been saying all along, ie that The Roots will stay with Fallon for the move. Even before yesterday’s official statement from NBC announcing Jay Leno‘s departure from The Tonight Show after 22 years to be replaced by Jimmy Fallon in the spring of 2014, rumors were flying and one question kept coming up: Will The Roots be joining him? Of course, to us, the question seems a bit silly because…a Jimmy Fallon talk show without The Roots band? Imagine–how would that even work, exactly? I mean, who would slow-jam news?

So will ?uesto may have to get used to being called ‘The Funk Doc Severinson’? The fact is, the official statements have made no mention of The Roots, and both Jimmy and ?uestlove have been keeping quiet on the subject. Meanwhile, Black Thought and percussionist Frank Knuckles have let it be known via twitter that the band is staying. Nothing can officially be confirmed but it’s our understanding that Jimmy has every intention of taking The Roots with him–and why wouldn’t he? Justin Timberlake capped a week-long residence on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon with a medley of tracks from The 20/20 Experience to FutureSex/LoveSounds and Justified. A move that offered a birds eye view of the depth of his catalog – his place at the top cemented by a string of hits that speak not only to his evolution but also to his bottomless talent. The bandstand was rocking just as hard as the audience, as JT gave all of the r-&-wannabe’s of the world a clinic on how to win. Putting the show to bed, JT and Jimmy Fallon gave audiences what they had been waiting for all week with the History Of Rap Pt. 4 – beginning and ending with the Sugarhill Gang‘s “Apache”, the lively pair had the crowd on its feet for the duration of the performance. Though the Timberlake takeover on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon has has come to an end, they would be remiss not to do it again. The past week has proven them a dynamic duo of epic proportion. Justin Timberlake celebrated his fourth consecutive night commandeering the stage at Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday with a premiere of his new single “Strawberry Bubblegum” – a super smooth track that drips sex and channels doo-wop. He also teamed with host Jimmy Fallon for another sketch – this time live from a cabin at Camp Winnipesaukee for a hilarious reenactment of Toto‘s Africa. It will be interesting to see what the pair have got up their sleeves for tomorrow night’s finale. JT‘s album The 20/20 Experience drops next Tuesday.

First Lady Michelle Obama, has been a busy woman. As if her day job weren’t enough, she made a recent appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to demonstrate the “Evolution of Mom Dancing” with host Jimmy Fallon in honor of her “Let’s Move” campaign and mentioned Frank Ocean among the first family’s musical faves. Topping her dance moves, she made a surprise appearance via satellite at this year’s Academy Awards on Sunday. Dressed for the gala event, Mrs. Obama appeared flanked by military personnel live from the White House in a shimmering gown by Naeem Khan to deliver the list of nine nominees for Best Picture. The FLOTUS’ major award show appearance follows that of former president Bill Clinton, who recently appeared at the Golden Globe Awards to announce Best Picture nominee Lincoln.

Jimmy Fallon and Christina Aguilera AND The Roots crew grabbed a bunch of office supplies ranging from cellphones to coffee pots and jammed out a bizcapella version of Aguilera’s single “Your Body” the other night. Kind of a sequel to their classroom version of Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe” (currently at 11 Million views). I thin we can reasonably expect this joint to go viral as well considering that it makes the perfect monday morning soundtrack and it features Jimmy Fallon and Christina performing together. It will be especially great for those of us in the New York/New Jersey area who are heading into the office for the first time since Hurricane Sandy today. Full personnel and instrumentation (?uestlove on the coffee pots, of course) are included after the jump, just in case you didn’t think this ish was real–though I would like to note that Jimmy’s desk-thumping is not properly credited, which—let’s be honest, this thing would not be a hit without Fallon on thumps.
