Spike Lee Talks Honorary Oscar Awards, Knicks Basketball & 'Chiraq' On 'The Tonight Show'

"The other day I finally got my Oscar," Spike Lee said with a half-shrug on Thursday night's episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Lee was referring to the honorary Academy Award he received this week, a presentation that afforded him the chance to both reflect on his own career and put the Hollywood scene on blast for a persistent lack of diversity.

But the focus, Thursday night, was on Lee's new ventures, and he and Fallon quickly got down to business discussing the New York Knicks burgeoning success and, of course Chiraq, Lee's upcoming semi-controversial film about a tragic comedy set on the dangerous streets of Chicago's south side. Fallon shared a clip that we can only describe as a...diplomatic meeting. You'll have to watch it to fill in the blanks.

Lee also discussed Do The Right Thing Way, a Brooklyn street that was named after his iconic film earlier this summer, and shared a bit of career advice that he often gives his NYU film school students. Spike laid it out, plain and simple: "There's no overnight success. You gotta bust your ass."
