A Tribe Called Quest Reunites Live On The Tonight Show w/ The Roots [Video + Exclusive Backstage Photos]

A Tribe Called Quest returned to the stage tonight to celebrate 25 years since the release of their seminal debut People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm LP live on The Tonight Show. Okayplayer was on-hand backstage to capture the spirit of the reunion with photographer Shayan Asgharnia. Fulfilling the deepest wishes of the Native Tongues faithful, Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White rocked together for the first time since their Yeezus Tour farewell dates in 2013. Backed by The Roots, the legendary Queens crew performed "Can I Kick It" - a standout from the project which resurfaced today as a 25th-anniversary reissue featuring remixes from J. Cole, Raphael Saadiq, Pharrell and CeeLo.

Along with The Legendary Roots Crew and the full ATCQ troupe, there were many friends and colleagues in the building for this historic moment including Adrian Younge, DJ J. Period, photographer Mel D. Cole, industry insider J. Nicholson, tour manager Tina Farris, Roots manager Shawn Gee and others featured in the portrait series above. The electric set was a great way to kick off the weekend ahead of Tribe's sold out reunion show this Saturday at Santos Party House. Click through the photos above for a behind-the-scenes look at tonight's celebration. Check out the footage below to watch the full performance. Purchase the People’s Instinctive Travels... LP via iTunes. Purchase the anniversary reissue on all formats via Amazon. Stay tuned for more from The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
