Unfoonk, Brother of Young Thug, Given 9 Year Sentence In Connection to YSL Case
Rapper and YSL member Unfoonk, the younger brother of Young Thug, has been sentenced to nine years and six months in prison after investigators say he violated his probation.
Unfoonk, the younger brother of Young Thug, has been sentenced to nine years and six months in prison in connection to the massive RICO indictment against YSL members. The 34-year-old rapper, legal name Quantavious Grier, received his sentence on Monday (June 5) after investigators claimed that he violated his probation.
On May 4, Grier was reportedly arrested in Atlanta for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the connection being associated with a criminal street gang to attempt illegal activity and traffic offenses. At the time of his arrest, Grier was parked at a BP gas station in a black Mercedes G-Wagon. With a group of people gathered outside the driver’s door, plainclothes officers became suspicious of a possible drug deal at the scene.
As the SUV attempted to drive away, officers stopped the vehicle, citing a window tint violation, also noticing a marijuana smell.
“I also noticed a handgun in plain view located in the driver side door panel,” the officer wrote. “Mr. Grier advised that the gun was clean, which prompted me to believe he had knowledge of the firearm being there.”
During the sentencing on Monday, Judge Ural Glanville also noted that Grier hadn’t paid $141.08 in probation fees or began participating in community service, but that the prison term was due to being caught with a firearm.
“The issue I find aggravating in this particular circumstance are several. You got arrested with a gun within six months of you being placed on probation,” Glanville said. “All you had to do was complete your probation and do what you were supposed to do.”
In December, Grier pleaded guilty to one count of violating the RICO Act and one count of theft due to his alleged involvement in receiving stolen property along with several other YSL members. At the time, Grier was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with two years commuted to time served and 10 years probation.
