Wu-Tang Sued for Copyright Infringement By Soul Group The Diplomats

Wu-Tang may have some new legal troubles.

Wu-Tang Clanis being sued for copyright infringement by The Diplomats (no, not those Diplomats).

TMZ reports, three members of ’60s soul group claim that Wu-Tang’s 2017 single “People Say” featuring Redman stole the “melody, lyrics and rhythm” of their hit 1969 song “I’ve Got the Kind of Love.” The lawsuit states the phrase “people say” is also a prominent lyric in The Diplomats’ song and that Mathematics, a producer for Wu-Tang, is also at fault.

According to court documents, the three bandmates say they never granted Wu-Tang permission to use their music. They're requesting financial compensation and want Wu-Tang to cease sales, streams, and performances of the song.

The Diplomats reportedly claim many listeners have noticed similarities between the two songs and have even pointed them out online.

The track was also sampled by Action Bronson and The Alchemist in their 2012 track, "Modern Day Revelations"
