Sadly, it appears that day may never come. According to a recent interview with the film's star, Will Ferrell, both he and Step Brothers director, Adam McKay, "got sidetracked with other things" after discussing the prospect of a sequel.
He did, however, offer a glimpse at a proposed plot for the sequel. Ferrell told the Daily News that a part two for the film would have centered on the duo of woefully-unprepared-for-adulthood adults (opposite John C. Reilly) shirking the whole working until you can't thing and opting for early retirement, as their parents ready themselves for the same, more deserved, step. Ferrell, who will star in an upcoming sequel to Daddy's Home, is also slated to appear in Holmes and Watson as a presumably incapable Sherlock Holmes. Because why would Will Ferrell ever star as a competent anything?

In any case, Daddy's Home 2 is out this Friday, November 10th. And if you're sour about the lack of a proper sequel to Step Brothers, you'll at least be able to get your fill of the original this holiday season, as there'll be no shortage of syndicated re-runs.
